well, third session now into this one, and felt
like the declaration of war has been made. A large
canvas of this size feels more engaging...and when
I recall that Sargent often scraped a good deal of
paint off his canvases as he painted and yet main-
tained that spontaneous look he had, I can see it
happening. The tendency is to get overly detailed
and at somepoint I want to soften what comes across
too harsh, as rushing water has that feeling.
