my art in 77 SQUARE!

CITY GOES TO THE BIRDS WITH TWO NEW ART SHOWS
77 Square article by Lindsay Christians

a few weeks ago i got a call from 77 square arts writer Lindsay Christians, asking about my current art exhibit at ARTspace in downtown madison. i can't even say how flattered i was to be interviewed and featured the following week in an article with local scrap metal art welder Erika Koivunen and her amazing bird sculptures!

it was really amazing to see it in print too! and so much fun to sit out in my backyard on a sunny afternoon and talk all about owls, art and e-courses for the story!

Love the title for the exhibit too...The Owls and Other Art of Juliette Crane: Wild and Beautiful Things from the Everyday World.

downtown ART SHOW!

i'm very excited to announce...my very first downtown art show!

after the opening party last friday, family and friends helped take down the show. and this week i had the opportunity to hang my paintings downtown in the municipal building's first floor gallery, ARTspace!

and thank goodness for my amazing husband brian, who helped me hang and arrange everything (we make a pretty awesome team)!

together we transformed these white walls...

and filled them with lots of color and whimsy!

there were A LOT of paintings to hang and arrange!

i'm just always delighted to see these small paintings together like this!

but i especially love that my first LARGE painting plays so well as the center piece!

and i'm lucky enough to be sharing the space with these wonderful quilts by kent williams (so much color, i love it!)!

do stop by to see the show if you're in town!

when we were done with it all, we were pretty proud of ourselves...

and headed down to the park where we enjoyed a phenomenal little picnic...

and this amazing lakeside view!

have an AMAZING weekend, everyone!

enjoy!

on tuesday, i'll be sharing a few of the gorgeous owl paintings created around the world during my How To Paint An Owl e-course! happy creating!

ART OPENING! With Special Musical Guests!

such a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who made it out for the art opening friday night!

and a special THANK YOU to all of the musicians!!!

it was one of those magical nights where so many wonderful people came together. it sort of felt like my wedding...where family and friends from all different parts of my life, and good friends of good friends - all came together in one place!

and they all met one another and enjoyed some phenomenal music!

at last year's event, i was fortunate enough to have the lovely photographer, Jacquelyn Muskatevc of Signature Creations.

and i now know just how important it is to have a photographer for future events because i hardly have any photos of the evening. i just get all swept away meeting good people and talking about art and music...and i forget to snap photos!

so i completely do not have any photos of our first wonderful band, Dan and His Faults...although this might just be Dan's guitar case.

next up was nick brown...

and then my husband brian played with his band ghost town council.

it was so fabulous to see them perform with all of my paintings behind them!

and at the end of the night, everyone got up and sang!

it was so nice to see everyone! thank you again to everyone who joined us! i am so incredibly grateful for your continued encouragement and support! i wish you all could have been there with us!

ps. there are a few mounted prints left from the show and i'll be adding them to my shop later next week!

opening party & art show!

just over a year ago, i had what i call my FIRST BIG ART OPENING in madison, wisconsin.

i signed on to be part of madison's gallery night and hosted an art show and opening at my favorite local coffeehouse, the evp.

i remember this opening party as my first big art event because absolutely everyone turned out that night! brian's band ghost town council performed and we filled the coffeehouse with family and friends from all over!

this event was also HUGE for me becuase it really catapulted my confidence and belief in myself as an artist and how i could share my life and art with the rest of the world!

so to celebrate and as a BIG THANK YOU! brian and i are hosting another opening party FRIDAY, JUNE 24!

we hung the art show at the evp earlier this week and it looks fantastic! i can hardly believe how many paintings there are!

and i'm so proud that this is the first time i'm showing a piece from my new large painting series (this is your life, 30x30 inches)!

it's really amazing to think that only a little more than a year ago, i had my first show at this location and it literally spun all of this confidence into me to accomplish so much this last year

i was very happy to update my little artist bio here...and to add in a bit about the upcoming session of my next HOW TO PAINT AN OWL E-course!

and looking back, i seriously would have never ever thought i would have just gotten home from a lovely art retreat and trip to england!

or that my artwork would be featured in somerset studio gallery and somerset studio magazines!

and that i had the opportunity to be invited to teach at artfest 2012! and have had so many amazing teaching experiences with my HOW TO PAINT AN OWL workshops already!

well, i can't think of a better reason to celebrate and have our second annual opening party! and this time we have three amazing bands performing!

i so wish you all could be there! i think i might just have to shoot a bit of video to share and will definitely snap lots and lots of photos! if you are in wisconsin at the end of june, i hope to see you there!

ART OPENING

Have a lovely weekend!

Bloom True With Flora Bowley!

when i was asked to assist the lovely  flora bowley in her bloom true workshop at the do what you love retreat in england...what could i say but YES!

i just couldn't believe we got to paint in this gorgeous landscape!

and i felt so at home painting on these large canvases...

especially when it was warm enough to take them outside and paint in the grass!

i learned so much about painting, teaching and creative business from flora!

she's originally from green bay, wisconsin (not too far from where i grew up) so it was especially sweet to share stories from the midwest.

and i cannot wait to try out some of the translucent paints she uses!

it was really amazing to have this time to play and learn from everyone else in the class too!

and i really did try to keep this painting just like it is when i went to york to paint in my hotel room after the retreat.

but, of course, an owl just started to appear!

i can't wait to share the finished piece with you on monday...along with the entire painting and her story from start to finish!

have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!!

west coast art + inspirations

gorgeous papers at flax in san francisco

my most recent trip to california was all about art + inspiration!

Lunch at Tartine Bakery in The Mission, San Francisco with the lovely Tiffany MooreBeth NichollsLouise Gale, and Mati McDonough

i met these lovely and inspiring ladies for the very first time and we chatted and enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Tartine Bakery!

i spent lots of time admiring these fabulous papers and got inspired to add flocking powder to a few new paintings to get that incredible look of velvet!

even with a bit of rain, i took lots of walks...

and really enjoyed the like-springtime flowers.

i found some of my favorite things...watermelon juice, homemade granola bars with dried figs and apricots and the perfect macchiato!

then i headed to an artful journey in los gatos!

and i so admired the lovely orange trees,

palm trees,

moss-covered trees...

and even the fog.

after a three day painting workshop with jesse reno...

and lots of art with some seriously amazing ladies...

beth, louise and i headed down the coast on hwy 1!

the sun was out in carmel, california

and i spent lots of afternoons overlooking the ocean...

and eating fabulous food at nepenthe...

and the adorable big sur inn.

i just couldn't resist the blooming magnolias,

orchids!

anything outdoors, really...

especially the redwoods in julie pfeiffer burns state park (big sur).

and after more flowers,

fabulous food,

and nature walks...

i headed back to wisconsin and feel like i've been painting and so inspired ever since!
